“Reincarnation” by Franz Kafka

Probably everyone remembers the sad story of Gregor Zamza, described by Kafka – as an ordinary salesman turned into a nasty huge insect and suddenly became useless to everyone. Kafka with an impartial meticulousness, worthy of the pen of a naturalist, describes the reincarnation of Zamza. And along with the reincarnation, the attitude of his relatives changes, for whom he was the only breadwinner, but suddenly became a burden, not the most pleasant. At first they try not to notice what happened, but over time they treat Gregor colder and more disgusted.

You can consider “Reincarnation” a fantastic work, because has anyone ever heard of a man turning into an insect in one night? But at the same time, it is more a tragedy of “unnecessary” people, sick, disabled, old. When they suddenly become superfluous in their family and society, they are treated as something disgusting and unacceptable, although only yesterday they were prevented from getting something for themselves. And although this story was written a long time ago, it is no less relevant today.
